And then I had to say something about it.
I find that, to speak about the latest episode of SGA, I’m going to have to start out with the meta. It is simply impossible for me to examine it at all without losing the suspension of disbelief, so here’s my theory: this and the Tower are the episodes that are paying for my cool swooshing ship effects in episodes like the Hive. Bargain basement, no extra extras, cheap sets and fast dull writing and let the viewer caveat.
How do I reconcile the characters and their utter
idiocy?
Answer: John and Rodney just started having sex and they are both
temporarily
insane from man-love. Rodney is having a romantic renaissance and John
can’t say no to him just at the moment. Teyla and Ronon are still
experiencing
some of the effects of the Wraith Enzyme, and Caldwell is paralyzed by
Goa’uld
guilt. Of course, um, Lorne is stressed over Parrish’ failure to call
him back
yesterday, Zelenka has been hypnotized by some previously unknown Alien
artifact in a room far away from the main complex, and the two folks in
the
pods have, by some quirk of spacetime, been continually inundated with
bad war
movies for all the years of their stasis. Oh, and Atlantis Herself? Is
sleeping, as all sentient cities need to do every cycle or so.
There! Fanwanked!
Not exactly rocket science, is it? But it's all worthwhile when I get to hear Rodney instructing Ronon in the ways of Earth.
